Soft Tonneau Covers

Soft tonneau covers can be a type of a roll up cover, snap cover, or folding tonneau cover.

These tonneau covers are usually made of UV resistant fabric and to gain access to your truck bed you simply roll them up. One of the benefits of having a soft cover is that you keep full access to your truck bed with most covers. The soft folding covers that do take up 1/3 of your bed are easily removed for full access to your bed.

Soft covers stretch over your truck bed and are secured by snaps or Velcro to keep the elements (water/snow/debris) out. The cover is kept from sagging by rails (called cross bars or bows) that span across the bed from side to side. These bows are usually curved, but sometimes they are flat in order to give the cover a lower profile while viewing your truck bed from the side. As with almost all tonneau covers, these covers will increase the gas mileage of your truck by around 8%, so they almost pay for themselves in the first year of use.

There are two main types of soft covers: snap on and roll-up. The main difference is that the snap on covers usually require a bit more time to open and close, and aren’t quite as weather-tite as the pure roll up tonneau covers. All soft covers come with a seal that goes between the side rails and your truck bed.

Several of these brands offer several different styles of soft covers, so you have several options depending on your budget and the utility or appearance you desire.

The entry level soft cover is the Ionic soft cover and it is secured by snaps around the perimeter. The bows just snap on and there is no drilling required.

Next in line are the Extang soft covers and they offer four different styles. The BlackMax, Fulltilt SL, the Revolution and the Tuff Tonno. Extang also offers an excellent warranty on their covers.

Advantage offers a snap-on soft cover, called the Sure Fit,  that features spring loaded corners that keep your cover tight in all kinds of weather extremes.

Truxedo brand covers come in four different styles, the Truxsport, the Edge, the Lo Pro QT, and the Deuce. All Truxedo soft covers are made in the USA!

At the high end of soft tonneau covers is the Access brand. They offer six different models including the TonnoSport, the Vanish, the LiteRider, the Lorado, the Original Roll-Up, and the Limited. All Access soft covers are also made in the USA.

Most soft covers come in the color black, while some manufacturers offer a few other colors like red or tan, etc. This type of cover doesn’t offer as much security as hard tonneau covers, but they are excellent for ‘out of sight-out of mind’.
