Ford has never made a factory (OEM) tonneau cover, so all Ford tonneau covers are all made by aftermarket truck accessory manufacturers. Ford was one of the first truck manufacturers to come out with a 'Crew Cab' truck called the 'Supercrew'.
When you order a tonneau cover for your Ford F150, please note that you can't just say, "I need a tonneau cover for my short bed F150". A little bit of history will explain this:
Prior to the F150 Supercrew, which came out in 2001, there were only 2 lengths of pickup truck beds available: 8 foot beds and 6 foot 6 inch beds.
You USED to be able to say, "I want a tonneau cover for my short bed Ford F150 pickup", and that meant that you wanted a tonneau cover for your 6'6" bed truck. (Which is shorter than the 8 foot beds, which were the standard for pick-up trucks for many years.)
But when Ford introduced the F150 Supercrew in 2001, which has a FIVE foot- six inch bed…then everything (and everyone) started getting confused!
"I want a tonneau cover for my short bed F150" no longer was enough information for ordering your truck bed cover, folks needed more information about the Ford trucks. "Short bed tonneau covers" STILL mean the 6'6" bed, so it is better to give the length in feet and inches. Ford now makes 3 different length beds: 8 foot, 6'6" and the 5'6" truck beds.
Ford was also the first pickup truck manufacturer to offer, as standard equipment, black textured bed rails on the side rails of your truck bed. While some thought that this addition didn't look good with their tonneau cover, they finally 'got over it' as other manufacturers began to do the same thing. This is one of the reasons why 'wrap over' hard tonneau covers were popular in the last decade…they were trying to use their tonneau cover to hide the black plastic rails on their truck beds.
As with all Ford tonneau covers, make sure that you cover that front rail of your truck bed, which is notorious for being the place for where water can leak into your truck bed. The rear is rarely a problem with leaking so that isn't as much as an issue.
One of the nicest things about Ford F150 truck beds, is that they seem to offer the largest capacity of any truck bed. You will find many options available in your search. You will first want to narrow down what type you are looking for. Hard tonneau covers offer the best security and the looks that most are looking for. Other like the soft tonneau covers that roll up since they are so easy to use and are available in a low profile. Folding tonneau covers are great for the functionality of be able to sectionally use your bed - even all the way up to full bed access on the Bakflip tonneau covers.
