In 2004, Nissan introduced the Titan. Prior to the Titan, there were only three other domestic ‘full-size’ trucks: The Ford F-150, the Dodge Ram and the Chevy Silverado. (The newest generation of the Toyota Tundra, the full-size model, was not introduced until 2007).

The Nissan Titan used to only be available in 2 bed sizes, the 5 foot, 6 inch bed and the 6 foot, 6 inch bed. A few years later, they introduced a 7 foot truck bed that has gotten quite popular.

The Nissan Titan also offers the same wonderful feature as the Nissan Frontier, and that is called the ‘Utili-trac’ system. This system is a type of a ‘cargo management system’, and is standard on some models, but it is an option on other Nissan models. The Titan also introduced a unique tailgate. Earlier full-size pick-ups all had a slightly curved top of the tailgate, which made the wrap-over tonneau covers look quite nice. But the new tailgate design of the Nissan Titan had a ‘projection’ at the rear which made production of some of the wrap-over tonneau covers a little more difficult. Obviously, this issue was solved over time. The tonneau covers that don’t wrap over the sides of your truck, such as soft tonneau covers and folding tonneau covers don’t have an issue with this.

Going back to the ‘Utili-trac’ system, some tonneau cover manufacturers require you to temporarily remove your Utili-trac system. This is only until you install your tonneau cover, and then you can replace the utili-trac system.
